The 'Eric Hofsjo' tulip (also spelled 'Eric Hofsjö') is a robust, classic variety belonging to the Darwin hybrid class.
ReplyDeleteThe Eric Hofsjo tulip is an outstanding giant variety belonging to Class 4 (Darwin Hybrids). It has earned a reputation as a "masterpiece" among collectors and gardeners alike, thanks to its colossal size, sturdiness, and striking, festive petal coloration.
ReplyDeleteEven in full sun, this tulip does not open completely, retaining its perfect elliptical shape.
A large, goblet-shaped flower. The color of the petals ranges from deep carmine-red and watermelon-red to orange-red with a mandarin-orange undertone. Along the edges of the petals runs a broad, lightly streaked, creamy-white or lemon-yellow border, which may fade to an ivory shade as the bloom matures. The base of the flower is yellow with a bluish-green center, and the anthers are violet-black.
ReplyDeleteIt features an incredibly strong, thick stem, reaching a height of 65 to 75 cm (under favorable conditions, individual flower stalks can grow as tall as 1 meter). The bloom itself is 10–11 cm high, with a diameter of up to 7 cm when closed.
ReplyDeleteIt blooms mid-season (typically in mid-May), opening a little later than classic varieties such as ‘Parade’ or ‘Oxford’.
ReplyDeleteBulbs: Large, with a distinctive rounded shape reminiscent of an onion, which sets them apart from other Darwin hybrid varieties.
ReplyDeleteThis variety is versatile and reliable to grow. It demonstrates an excellent propagation rate and high resistance to diseases. Gardeners value it because it can remain in the same spot for many years without needing to be dug up annually, all while maintaining consistent health.
