*Philadelphus* is a popular ornamental deciduous shrub belonging to the Hydrangeaceae family; it is widely—though erroneously—referred to as "garden jasmine" due to its snow-white flowers and strong, sweet fragrance. True jasmine is primarily a heat-loving plant from warmer regions, whereas *Philadelphus* withstands harsh winters well and is undemanding in terms of care.
