Representatives of the genus are abundantly branching epiphytic shrubs with aerial roots. All species have soft bristly pubescence, no thorns. The stems are drooping, can be of various shapes - round, ribbed or flat leaf-like.

The areoles are located on the surface of the stem - unlike representatives of the related genus Lepismium. The flowers are actinomorphic, small; depending on the species, they can be located either along the entire length of the stem or closer to the top of the shoot.
