Zamioculcas (Latin: Zamioculcas) is a popular houseplant known as the "dollar tree."
Key characteristics (2025):
Care requirement: Low. Considered one of the most low-maintenance plants, it is ideal for beginners and offices.
Lighting: Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates partial shade. Does not like direct sunlight (possible burning).
Watering: Infrequent. Zamioculcas is a succulent; it stores water in its tubers and fleshy stems. Water only after the soil has completely dried out. Excess moisture leads to root rot.
Soil: Light, breathable (a mix for cacti and succulents with added sand or perlite).
Temperature: Optimal 18...26°C. In winter, keep at least 15°C. Popular varieties:
Zamioculcas zamiifolia is a classic variety with green leaves.
Raven is a variety with almost black leaves (a popular trend in recent years).
Zenzi is a dwarf variety with denser, curled leaves.
Variegata is a rare variety with white-green spots on the leaves.
Important: This plant is poisonous if ingested, so keep it away from small children and pets.
