Bovieya

  Bovieya is popularly called “sea cucumber”. This is a rather interesting and unusual plant that is directly related to the hyacinth family. 

 This flower comes from the southern regions of Africa, and it prefers to grow in deserts, savannas, and also on river banks. Only one species is grown at home - Bowiea volubilis.

 Experts at the same time classify such a flower as a climbing, bulbous, or succulent plant. Many gardeners do not consider boviea a spectacular flower, but it is very exotic. This plant consists almost entirely of climbing, relatively long shoots that grow from a large bulb. The leaves are quite small, as are the pale green flowers. Both grow at the end of spring and fall off after a little time. Bovieya is often grown as an ampel plant, with rather long and curved shoots hanging beautifully over the sides of the container. If desired, the stems can be fixed in a vertical position by tying them to a special support.

 This plant requires moderate lighting. It must be protected from direct rays of the sun, as they can destroy the plant, especially the bulb. It is best to place it next to a window with a western or northwestern orientation.
