Hippeastrum. Plant.

  The genus Hippeastrum has about 90 species growing in tropical and subtropical America. The largest number of species is in the Amazon River basin (Brazil, Bolivia, Peru).   This huge area is the center from which all species of hippeastrum have spread to other tropical and subtropical regions.

 The flower is located on a peduncle 4.0-5.0 cm long, at the base of which there is one membranous bract. Flowers 13-15 cm long, 15-25 cm in diameter, funnel-shaped or tubular, of various colors: bright red, dark cherry, pink, orange, white, etc. The perianth is fused, corolla-shaped, from 6 leaflets arranged in two circles.
