Hibiscus is a large genus of vibrant flowering plants.

Hibiscus is a large genus of vibrant flowering plants in the Malvaceae family, best known for their large, showy flowers. Hibiscus sinensis (Chinese rose) is most commonly grown indoors, while Hibiscus syriacus, or herbaceous hibiscus, is grown outdoors in southern regions.

Hibiscus is a large genus
of vibrant flowering plants.

Basic rules for indoor hibiscus care: To ensure your plant regularly delights you with lush blooms, provide it with comfortable conditions: Lighting: Maximum bright but diffused light (southern or eastern windows). Hibiscus will not bloom if there is insufficient light. Watering: Generously in summer after the top layer of soil dries out, moderate in winter. Avoid stagnant water in the pan. Humidity: Requires regular misting of the leaves, especially during the heating season.

Temperature: During the warm season, +20–25 °C; in winter, a dormant period of +15–18 °C is desirable. Pruning: Shorten the shoots annually in the spring. This stimulates the growth of new branches, at the ends of which buds form. Potential problems when growing: Dropping buds: A sudden change in location, drafts, drying out soil, or watering with cold water. Yellowing leaves: Chlorosis (iron deficiency), overwatering, or a pot that is too small. Lack of flowering: A pot that is too large, insufficient light, or lack of a cool wintering area.
