| Nerine (Latin: Nerine) is a genus of perennial bulbous plants. |
Known species: Nerine bowdenii: The most popular and hardy species. It has large pink inflorescences and can be grown outdoors in regions with mild winters. Nerine flexuosa: It has petals wavy at the edges, most often pink or white. Nerine sarniensis: It has bright red, orange, or crimson flowers with long stamens. Care features: The crop is considered quite capricious due to its unusual life cycle: Double dormancy period: The plant rests twice a year - in winter and in midsummer.
During the summer dormancy period, the leaves die back completely. Flowering: Occurs in the fall (September–October). The flower stalk emerges from the bare bulb before new leaves begin to actively grow. Lighting: Requires maximum bright sunlight. Watering: Begin only when the flower stalk emerges in the fall. During the summer dormancy period, watering is stopped completely to prevent the bulb from rotting. Planting: Bulbs are planted so that their necks are slightly above the soil surface. The plant prefers tight pots.
