Buddleja (Latin: Buddleja) is a genus of spectacular, fast-growing flowering shrubs.

Buddleja (Latin: Buddleja) is a genus of spectacular, fast-growing flowering shrubs in the Scrophulariaceae family, prized by gardeners for their abundant, long-lasting blooms and honeyed aroma. Due to its ability to attract a huge number of insects, this plant is often called a "butterfly magnet" or "autumn lilac." Key features of the plant: Long flowering period: most species bloom from July until late autumn. Inflorescences: large, conical panicles, reminiscent of lilac. Color palette: includes violet, purple, pink, white, blue, and lavender shades. High growth rate: in a single season, the shrub can reach 1.5–2.5 meters in height.

Popular species: Buddleja davidii: the most popular species in landscape design. Blooms on the current year's shoots. In mid-latitudes, the aboveground portion of the plant usually freezes over in winter, but the bush quickly recovers from the root collar in spring. Buddleja alternifolia: a more frost-hardy species that blooms on previous year's growth in long, drooping garlands.

Basic care: Planting location: Fully sunny and protected from strong winds. In shade, the plant stretches and blooms sparsely. Soil: Light, fertile, well-drained. Buddleja absolutely does not tolerate stagnant moisture at the roots. Pruning: Buddleja alternifolia requires radical spring pruning. The bush is pruned very low (leaving 20-30 cm from the ground), which stimulates vigorous growth of young shoots and ensures lush flowering. Overwintering: It is recommended to mound the root system high with dry soil, peat, or cover it with oak leaves to protect the growth buds from freezing. If you plan to plant this shrub, please specify: are you interested in growing from seed or planting a ready-made seedling? Please let me know your region so I can help you choose the most winter-hardy varieties for your climate.
