 In the wild, it is found in tropical forests of South and Southeast Asia, as well as New Guinea.


 Description:

 Leaves: basal, large, heart-shaped;

 Inflorescence: spadix;

 Taro fruit: many-seeded berry.

 Application and use:

 Colocasia esculenta (taro) is a widely cultivated species on the islands of Oceania; a popular tuberous plant of Southeast Asia and other tropical regions;

 Taro leaves are used to prepare the Hawaiian dish laulau;

 Some species of taro are used in gardening.
