| Sorbaria is a deciduous shrub in the Rosaceae family. |
Key Characteristics:
Appearance: A lush shrub growing from 1 to 3 meters tall (depending on the species).
Leaves: Large, odd-pinnate, often with a pinkish or copper hue in spring, turning bright green in summer, and golden or red in autumn.
Flowering: Small white or cream-colored flowers are collected in large pyramidal panicles up to 25–30 cm long. They bloom in the first half of summer (June–July) for 30 days.
Aroma: Has a strong honey scent that attracts bees and butterflies.
Popular Species:
Sorbaria sorbifolia: The most common species. Very frost-hardy and undemanding. A popular variety is 'Sem' (distinguished by its compact size and vibrantly colored young leaves).
Pallas's Rowan: A shorter variety (up to 1 m), suitable for smaller gardens.
Arborescent Rowan: Can grow up to 6 meters and is more heat-loving.
Growing Tips:
Light: Loves full sun but tolerates partial shade.
Soil: Prefers moist, fertile loams, but is generally undemanding.
Care: Requires annual sanitary and rejuvenating pruning as it grows rapidly.
Aggressiveness: It is important to note that Pallas's Rowan produces abundant root suckers and can quickly invade adjacent areas. Root barriers are recommended for containment.
Landscaping: Used to create hedges, stabilize slopes (due to its strong root system), and in group plantings. It looks especially impressive near water bodies.
