Many gardeners eagerly await the appearance of new leaves on the indoor zamioculcas plant. This is a very beautiful and spreading flower, but only if everything is fine with it. But sometimes it seems that new leaves are just beginning to form, but at the same time other old leaves are shed. And as a result, the plant becomes weak, and the greenery on it is sparse.

Features of natural aging.
During aging, the leaves on the plant begin to turn yellow. This is a natural process that should not be interfered with. Zamioculcas sheds unnecessary substances into old leaves (for example, calcium, which comes from hard water), but on the contrary, gives valuable components to young foliage (nitrogen).
If you notice that the foliage on the plant has begun to turn yellow, then you do not need to interfere with this process. You do not need to cut the leaves ahead of time, they should fall off on their own.
If 2-3 leaves fall off per year, then this is normal. But if, when young foliage is formed, old ones fall off in large quantities, then in this case it is worth reviewing the conditions of keeping the plant.
Improper nutrition, poor lighting.
If the zamioculcas begins to age prematurely and shed leaves, then the reason may be an excess or lack of fertilizers. It is recommended to start applying top dressing 1-3 months after replanting the plant, depending on the size of the container.
The dollar tree needs potassium, nitrogen, but do not forget about phosphorus, microelements. I apply complex fertilizers for ornamental foliage plants, they have a high nitrogen content. Universal mixtures also have a good effect.
Yellowing and shedding of leaves often occurs due to lack of light. Despite the fact that zamioculcas is considered a shade-tolerant plant, it needs natural light for growth, development, and foliage growth. Light provides full photosynthesis.
Incorrect watering.
If watering is frequent and abundant, the roots of the plant will begin to rot and become moldy. And this will negatively affect the appearance of the plant, its leaves will begin to turn yellow and fall off. And eventually it may die altogether
But rare watering will also not bring anything good. Overdrying the soil negatively affects the development of zamioculcas.
Watering should be moderate. I usually water twice a week or every 3 days. And I always drain excess water from the tray.
