Rose Abbatiale de Pontigny (France, 2014)

Pink floribunda with tiny, small spots on the petals. The flower is deeply cupped, medium-double (about 40 petals), with a spicy aroma. The foliage is dark green and glossy.

Pontigny Abbay is a Cistercian church located in Burgundy (approximately 250 km north of Lyon). The variety is new, the commercial name is preliminary, it is possible that it will change.

Rose Abbatiale de Pontigny (Pontigny Abbey) is a floribunda variety bred by Pierre Orard (France, until 2014).

The flowers are red, slightly variegated, with a palette of light, pink and silver shades, light reverse, silver back of the petals, sometimes mottled, with spots of dark red depending on the amount of sunlight.

The bud is dark red, oval. The flowers are double (30-40 petals), 7-9 cm in diameter, from deeply cup-shaped to rosette-shaped, collected in large inflorescences, with a light aroma. Resistant to adverse weather conditions: rain, high temperatures.

The bush is compact, with erect shoots, up to 80 cm high, 45 to 50 cm wide, with purple-brown foliage, profusely flowering and very resistant to disease. It blooms in frequent waves throughout the season, almost continuously until frost, the flowers are collected in large inflorescences. Frost-resistant variety.

These magnificent roses bloom in front of the famous abbey, located in Pontigny in Yonne and famous throughout the world for its rich heritage and architecture. The PONTIGNY 2014 Association wished to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the founding of this Cistercian abbey with the baptism of a new original rose, named Abbatiale de Pontigny.
