The evergreen medinilla plant is a beautiful flowering shrub that is considered part of the Melastomeaceae family. There are 100 known species of this plant, some of which are presented in the form of vines.
Medinilla comes from the Philippines. In nature, it is found in Africa, Asia and on the island of Madagascar, and prefers to grow in the jungle. The first time this plant was planted in Europe was in the mid-19th century in Mr. Veitch's greenhouse in England.
The growth and development rate of such a perennial is average. Medinilla is considered the largest epiphyte; in nature, its height can reach about 150 cm. The size of a houseplant can vary from 70 to 120 cm, while in appearance it looks like wild specimens. Caring for such a bush is quite difficult, but if everything is done correctly, the bush will bloom for a long time and very effectively.
Flowering lasts from the last days of April until mid-summer. Large, spectacular, racemose-shaped inflorescences are similar in appearance to lilacs.
