The delightful calla leaves no one indifferent, so many decide to have such a flower on their windowsill. However, not everyone knows that this culture can grow not only at home, but also on a personal plot.
Of course, in open ground, the calla will require increased attention, but for such rare beauty, this is forgivable.
The entire above-ground part of the calla is incredibly beautiful. Large heart-shaped leaves are painted in a rich dark green color, have a shiny surface and therefore look very decorative throughout the season. Some varieties can have variegated leaves. And when tall peduncles with elegant inflorescences appear, it becomes impossible to take your eyes off the plant - this picture gives so many positive emotions ...
And if earlier many associated calla exclusively with snow-white flowers, today, thanks to the efforts of breeders, you can plant varieties and hybrids of a wide variety of colors in your garden. Depending on the variety, the size of the calla bush varies from 30 to 150 cm, which means that this flower can be placed in a variety of ways in a flowerbed: along the edge of the flowerbed, in the background or in the center of a group composition. Calla will look no less impressive in a single planting.
It will bloom profusely in shaded corners of the garden, where other flower crops refuse to develop. In an open sunny area, the plant produces fewer flower stalks, but pleases with a more saturated color of foliage and "colored" inflorescences.
Callas love diffused light - protect them from the scorching midday sun. Before planting in the ground (after frosts!), germinate the tubers in containers with loose, slightly acidic soil.
Care is simple...
Top dressing - 3 times per season (moderately!).
After flowering (2 months of beauty!), cut off the flower stalks - this way the tubers will get stronger. In October, dig up the tubers, wash them and... wait... Leaves and roots should remain for 2 weeks - they will "pump" nutrition into the tubers. Only then trim and put them away for storage. .
Planted on the site, calla will not only give great aesthetic pleasure during its long flowering period, but also, according to popular belief, will bring good luck and prosperity to its owner.
