Haworthia - leaf succulent

The conditions for keeping haworthias and care at home are the same for everyone, regardless of their type.

Place the plant in a bright place, it is advisable to provide 3-4 hours of sunlight in the morning or evening. If the windows of your apartment face east or west, this location will be ideal. In case of strong sunlight from a southern window, the flower must be shaded during the midday hours.

It is very important to provide sufficiently long lighting in winter. If there is not enough sunlight, you can use artificial lighting with fluorescent lamps. During the cold period, Haworthias have a rest period with a temperature of 10-13°C, minimum temperature +5°C.

In spring and summer, succulents are kept like ordinary flowers, the main condition is to protect the plant from excessive sunlight and provide access to fresh air.

Certain watering rules for succulents

There are certain watering rules for all types of succulent plants. The main condition for home care is that it is better to give a minimum amount of water than to overwater the plant!

During the warm period of the year, from approximately April to August, the haworthia is watered as usual - as the earthen clod dries out, avoiding stagnation of water. Watering is done with settled water at room temperature, and fertilizers for cacti are added about once a month.

From September, the moisture supply is gradually reduced; in winter, the plant is watered with slightly warm water no more than once a month. Such rare watering is required during the dormant period, when the haworthia is kept cool.

If it is impossible to ensure a dry wintering, in heated rooms with an air temperature of 18-20°C, water the plant more often, approximately once every two weeks. It is very important to prevent water from entering the rosette of leaves, as this can cause rotting and inevitable death of the plant.

Thus, Haworthia is an easy-to-care flower that even a novice amateur gardener can grow. Like all succulent plants, it tolerates dry air in the apartment and does not need spraying.

Reproduction and planting of haworthias

Haworthias most often reproduce by dividing the plant. Daughter rosettes are easily separated from the mother plant with a sharp knife.

If the baby already has small roots, it can be planted directly into the ground. If no roots are found when separating a part of the plant, the baby should be dried in the open air for 4-5 days, then planted in sand for rooting.

When propagating Haworthia by leaf, it is also dried for several days, then placed in sand and not watered for the first three to four days. Then they begin to moisten the soil very carefully, using the “drip” irrigation method. It is very important to prevent rotting when planting, so the pot should not be covered with glass or film.

Substrate for planting Haworthia

Use cactus soil for planting. You can take a mixture of leaf, clay-turf soil, brick chips and sand. Since the roots of Haworthia are short and the rosettes grow quickly, it is better to take a wide and shallow pot for planting. Be sure to put expanded clay at the bottom to ensure good drainage - succulents do not tolerate stagnation of moisture at the roots.
